Full conversion process

  • SJ Campers offers a free consultation appointment to discuss a potential conversion. This is so that we can discuss ideas, review the desired layout and spec, and show you samples or examples. We generally work with a van that has already been purchased and is physically available to view at the consultation appointment. Video calls can be arranged if necessary.

  • We are happy to provide plenty of advice if you are yet to purchase your van for conversion. We do not sell unconverted vans, or purchase them on your behalf, unless by prior arrangement.

  • SJ Campers will provide an estimated quotation based on the consultation discussion. This document is not a final bill and the quoted figure is liable to change based on factors such as change to spec, materials or time required. Any requested changes in spec or services will result in an updated estimate and figure being sent to you.

  • If you would like to go ahead with the work that has been discussed and itemised in the estimate, we will ask you for written confirmation of approval. This estimate will then form our order list of parts. We will ask you for a down payment against your estimate in order to purchase parts - see Payment Schedule below.

Any changes made to the project following approval of the estimate will be charged accordingly to compensate for our admin time, and this is likely to affect the fitting/labour time. Following the approval of your estimate, our time is chargeable for research of parts, design time and labour at £50 per hour (excluding VAT).

  • Once your estimate is approved, we will offer you a booking date and send you an invoice for a £100 booking deposit to secure your booking date. Booking deposit invoices will include an online payment link within the invoice. Payment for the booking deposit is due on receipt. This booking deposit is deducted from your final bill. Please see our booking terms and conditions for full details.

  • Once your estimate has been approved and the booking deposit paid, we will ask you for a down payment in order for us to purchase parts. This figure will be discussed with you and is based on the amount stated in the agreed estimate. A request for payment will be made by invoice, and we accept cash or bank transfer as methods of payment.

We are a small team and we work on a month to month basis to manage our workload and cashflow. At the end of each month during the course of your conversion, we will request payment for the work that has been carried out on your vehicle within that month.

All part payments made will be deducted from your final invoice.

On completion of the project we will send you an invoice for the remaining outstanding balance, to be paid on the collection of the vehicle.

  • During the consultation stage we can give you an idea of how long the conversion could take, however this will depend on the complexity of the project and the spec chosen. Typically, a full conversion project is likely to be with us for around two months from the booking date.

  • Naturally, as in any creative process, we expect further decisions may be made on the spec and final outcome of the conversion as the job progresses. We are happy to accept a change of design or spec during the conversion process, however we will ask you to confirm this in writing. You must accept that alterations to the agreed scope of work will impact the final cost and completion date of the project.

We charge an admin fee of £50 +VAT to update our records and documentation for each change made after the estimate has been agreed. This is in addition to any extra costs incurred from the changes to design or spec.

  • On completion of the work we will send you a final invoice. Your final invoice will list all services carried out, as well as a breakdown of charged labour time and consumables. Any earlier payments will be deducted from your final invoice. The final outstanding amount is due on collection of the vehicle. When you’re ready to collect, we will handover the vehicle to you and provide a walkthrough of our work.

  • While we don’t want you to have any issues once you’re out in the wild, we’re here to answer any questions and solve any issues after project completion. We offer a six month check up on your van after collection.
