Smart Beds was born out of co-owner Mike's frustration with an aftermarket rock n roll bed that he fitted to his VW T4 camper. Mike and co-owner Martin decided that a simpler, sleeker design was required and so, with their backgrounds in fabrication and engineering, set about designing a better class of camper van bed.

The original Smart Bed takes up very little space in the back of your van and can be operated single-handedly by young people (or anyone lacking in great strength) due to its innovative mechanism and high quality rollers.

Smart Bed Evolution

The Smart Bed Evolution was designed based on customer feedback and a desire to keep pushing camper bed design forwards. As a result it features an innovative reclining system, which improves passenger comfort, as well as being pull tested to certification standard 76/115/EEC/2005.

Andy came to us just before Christmas with this great, partially converted T5, which he'd worked on himself but just required a few finishing touches.

We installed leisure battery and electrical wiring as well as power sockets, switches and power meter. Alongside this we added a very tidy looking VW California kitchen unit which houses a 2-ring gas stove, sink with tap, cutlery draw and storage cupboards alongside a great fridge.

Andy's coming back to see us in the future for a matching rear wardrobe/storage unit. Great van project!

This week we've been working on a Toyota Hiace high-top conversion, getting it ready for a full kitchen and bed install in the near future.

Windows have been added to the sliding door and driver's side mid panel and we've lined the walls and ceiling with synthetic insulation and graphite carpet. The floor has been taken up, lined in hard-wearing vinyl and relaid again - adding a nice touch of colour as well as making the van much more practical when cleaning out muddy shoe prints.

We hope to see the Hiace back here in the new year to complete the conversion, where we'll be adding kitchen and storage units as well as a bed.
