T5 Highline Conversions

This week we had the pleasure of a visit from two great looking VW T5 Highlines, both in need of some conversion love.

The red Highline was transformed into a Kombi by adding an extra row of passenger seats behind the main cab seats and then a set of tinted side windows for passengers to see out of - always handy!

The second Highline - in a stunning blue - underwent a 'semi-conversion' whereby we removed the bulkhead then added rear as well as sliding side windows, carpet lining, insulation and flooring before fitting a great looking rock n roll bed complete with seatbelts. We're sure you'll agree, it looks really rather nice, especially against the moody Cumbrian sky!

Si's VW Caddy Maxi Conversion

Every now and then converting panel vans into cherished campers throws up a challenge. We loved this conversion project for just that reason. Simon came to us with some specific requirements for his Volkswagen Caddy Maxi; he wanted to be able to use the van as both a 'van' for storing and moving kit around, but also as a campervan for weekends away - just there was one small problem.

Being shorter than the usual Transporter T4s and T5s this presented a bit of an issue as the position of the sliding side door was always going to restrict either access in and out of the van or the length of the bed. Cue Stu and John to the rescue!

In the gallery below you'll see the resultant solution. In order to get around the problem we designed and built an accordion style, concertinaed extending bed frame, which folds away to allow access in and out through the sliding door while still offering a full-length bed capable of offering a great night's rest.

This Week At SJ Campers

We've been very busy this week adding some neat finishing touches to some ongoing camper van projects, both for our customers as well as our own vans.

John removed his old standard (non crash-tested) rock n roll bed and instead installed a Smart Beds unit, complete with seat belts to offer some extra people-carrying capacity.

We had a lovely looking silver T5 come through the doors for colour coding and tinted window installation. We colour-matched the bumpers and wing mirrors to the rest of the body as well as installing windows in the barn doors and in the side panels of the van.

Finally we added a full leisure electrics loom to an ongoing conversion we lined out previously, ready to install a kitchen, heater, power and lighting.
